Elon Musk has denied having an affair with Google co-founder Sergey Brin’s wife.

SpaceX and Tesla founder Elon Musk says the reports are “total BS” and that there was “no romance” between him and Nicole Shanahan.

The Tesla and SpaceX boss said on Twitter that there was “no romance” between him and Ms Shanahan, adding that he and Mr Byrne were friends.

Mr Musk’s tweets followed a report by the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing unnamed sources, that he had a brief relationship with Ms Shanahan.

The affair prompted Mr. Byrne to file for divorce from Ms. Shanahan earlier this year and ended the tech billionaires’ long friendship, the newspaper said.

Musk responded to a tweet about the story on Twitter, adding that it was “total BS.”

Tesla and Google, whose parent company Alphabet Inc. did not immediately respond to requests for comment, and neither Mr. Byrne nor Ms. Shanahan were immediately available for comment.

A lawyer for Mr. Byron declined to comment to the WSJ, and Ms. Shanahan did not respond to the paper’s requests for comment.

Mr. Byrne filed for divorce citing “irreconcilable differences,” the Journal said, citing records filed in Santa Clara County Superior Court.

News agency Reuters was unable to independently determine whether divorce papers had been filed.

In its report, the WSJ also said that Mr. Byron instructed his advisers to divest Mr. Musk of personal investments in his companies when they learned of the matter.

The paper said it was unable to determine how large the investment was, nor whether any sales had taken place.
